Book of the week, Alan Lakey’s ‘How to make effective complaints”
Too many people let issues slide because they can’t be bothered, or were too busy and couldn’t find the time. Others take the view that you cannot fight the big boys, be it insurance companies, the financial services regulator, the Government or whoever.
The majority are scared to publicly criticise the regulator and choose to hide behind pseudonyms when commenting online.
This reluctance, this cowardice, this fear of reprisal is what enables the bullies to succeed. Having mugged you once they become empowered and try it again and again. Others watching from the side-lines see this corporate mugging and become eager to try their luck as well.
Can you beat them? Well I have successfully sued an insurer, a local authority, two nasty individuals, a network (twice) and a car salesman. Was it worth it? Hell yes, it’s no different to the schoolground bully who waves his fist but ends up on his arse in the mud. He will think twice before trying it again and this is the message that I’ve sent out to those who attempt to defraud, persecute or oppress.
We live in a country where free speech is only tolerated when it conforms with the views of the Government. We all need to look at those freedoms that are being removed by stealth.
We need to concern ourselves with the encroachment on those liberties hard won by our forefathers and the apparent ease with which Big Brother, in the form of the Government and corporations, restrict our choices and treat individuals like pawns.
If my experiences resonate and point just one person to question and make a stand rather than burying his head in the sand then I’ll be satisfied.
So if you are going to complain, here’s how to go about it effectively.
